Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack made him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
