The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a clamor for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge of video game design, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
